Hello all!
This week I would introduce you to a very good friend of mine and a talented writer Sangeeta Bhargava.
My friendship with her goes back many years when we met online on a social networking site. Our friendship grew with time and she is a wonderful person with great sense of humor and a very helpful nature.
Sangeeta Bhargava was born in a remote village in Maharashtra, India and did her graduation from Lucknow, which has been brought vibrantly to life in her novel, The World Beyond.
The World Beyond which was published recently is an engaging story of love in difficult times between an Indian prince and a young English girl. Set in 19th century in Lucknow, India, during British Raj, tells two stories from two worlds. When these worlds clash, the consequences are enormous and as this book shows, bloody. As tensions simmer in the heat of colonial India, an Indian prince and an English woman defy their society’s prejudices, and fall in love. But in a world where private happiness is at the mercy of wider events, even as the two are drawn closer together, their privileged lives are about to be torn apart.
What I liked about this story is it keeps you captivated and wanting to know what their fate is going to be. Excellent reading and beyond what I had thought of. It also depicts what happened during the uprising in the 19th century. The story is not just about the main characters but also shows the details of the world they live in along with their rituals and culture. The descriptions of Lucknow are beautifully drawn.
Sangeeta has also written Letters to my Baby, a book written by a mum for other mums. It is a book on pregnancy and baby care, written in the form of letters from a fictional mother to her baby, from the 6th week of conception, right up to the baby’s first birthday. I found this book highly informative and entertaining as well; so much so that I told Sangeeta, I feel like having another baby despite me being mum of two grown up kids. Ha ha
The World Beyond is her debut novel and is available in all major bookshops in India, UK, Australia and South Africa and would soon be available in USA and Canada as well.
Sangeeta Bhargava talks about her book The World Beyond in a live radio show with Mr. Rakesh Mathur.
