weekend destination- alibaug

Hello all! This weekend had gone out on short trip with family to a nearby place called Alibaug. Contrary to its name there are not baugs or gardens but its mainly beach area.

Google search  tells me Alibaug is a coastal town and a municipal council in Raigad District in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is also the headquarters of the Raigad district.

  • Road: One can reach Alibaug via Pen (30 km away), which is on the Mumbai (78 km away) - Goa road. From Mumbai, one can reach Alibaug by traveling on the Mumbai-Goa highway (NH-17)till Wadkhal (or Vadkhal) and taking the right fork from Wadkhal - the left fork being the road to Goa. The distance is approximately 108 km from Mumbai
  • Catamaran/Ferry: The nearest jetty is Mandwa From where catamaran/ferry services are available to Gateway of India, Mumbai. Another port in the vicinity is Rewas, from where a ferry service is available to Ferry Wharf(Bhau cha Dhakka). There is also a jetty at Custom Bandar from where fishermen in Alibag set sail.

At this time weather was quite pleasant with occasional rains and the greenery around the place was giving a cool air. Most people come here for weekend to relax and unwind from their daily grind. We did not go to many places but  went for some climatic change.

AKSHI BEACH

The beach was not so clean and high tide was coming  as waves kept rising here.

Greenery was giving it a hill station look and plenty of fresh air.

ALIBAUG BEACH

High tide at 12 noon where waves rising high and water coming out on the road. It was scary but lovely to see that too.

MANDWA JETTY

The vast Arabian sea  and Mandwa jetty where ferry services ply from Mumbai.Ferries and catamarans are not operational from mid-June to late September. However, the downpour and greenery make Alibaug irresistible during the monsoons.

Accomodation
Being a tourist center, there are many hotels, resorts and lodges in the town:
  1. Big Splash
  2. Hotel Ravikiran
  3. Kashid Beach resort
  4. Prakruti resort
  5. Sand piper resort
  6. Sunglow resort
  7. Windmill resort
We stayed at Hotel Ravikiran which is just about 10mins walk from main market area and reasonably priced with good ambience and service. I wont recommend stay in cottages as I was told there is always a power outage and its far away from population. If you are going with family best is to stay in nice hotel in the city itself.

Over all if one is tired from daily hustle bustle then this is the best place to relax and unwind.
